Love Is the Drug is a teen drama starring Lizzy Caplan (Orange County, Mean Girls) John Patrick Amedori (The Butterfly Effect), Jonathon Trent (Smile) , Jenny Wade (Monster-in-Law) and D.J. Cotrona (Skin) with Daryl Hannah (Splash). It revolves around the life of five teens as they mature during the summer between high school and college, facing challenges they never could have expected, and outcomes they wish they could change.
Lizzy Caplan has garnered attention for her appearances in numerous critically acclaimed television series. Including such show shows as “Freaks and Geeks”, “Smallville”, “Once& Again”. On the big screen, Lizzy has made her mark in such high profile films as “Orange County” with Colin Hanks and Jack Black, and “Mean Girls” with Lindsey Lohan.
In Alpine PictureÂ?s “Love is the Drug”, Lizzy Caplan will be portraying the lead character Sara Weller. Sara attends one of CaliforniaÂ?s top private schools and is admired by most of the student body - especially by outsider Jonah Brand who is utterly fixated on her and will stop at nothing to get into her confidence. But this is near impossible because Sara is the epicenter of a tight circle of hard partying friends who are more than selective of who they allow into their freewheeling lifestyle of sex, drugs and hedonistic exploration of LA’s endless nightlife. The biggest thing standing in Jonah’s way to attain Sara is her immensely popular and quintessential rich kid Troy Daniels who has been planning an idealistic future for them after they get through the realities of college and social responsibility. Jonah’s infatuated with Sara is so intense he uses any means necessary to get close to her which, in the case of “Love is the Drug”, drives him to actions that prove more than deadly.
John Patrick Amedori has already worked with some of HollywoodÂ?s most notable directors including Cameron Crowe in “Almost Famous,” M. Night Shyamalan in “Unbreakable” and Jonathan Demme in “Beloved.” AmedoriÂ?s television credits include guest starring roles on notable TV dramas such as Â?The Guardian,Â? Â?State of Grace,Â? Â?Law & Order,Â? as well as the show Â?Still Standing.Â?
Most recently, he was one of the leads in John StockwellÂ?s pilot, “Rocky Point” last year for the WBN. He played the role of the young Ashton Kutcher in the “Butterfly Effect,” and just finished the film “Mrs. Harris” opposite Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley. Currently, he is shooting a lead role opposite Missy Peregrym and Vanessa Lengies in “Stick It” for Walt Disney Pictures.
Ryan Carroll of Alpine expressed Â?the moment is saw his picture, I saw the face of Jonah BrandÂ? and added Â?John, lends a warmth and complexity to the role, and we are very happy to have such a fine young actorÂ?.
In Alpine PicturesÂ? Love Is the Drug he will be portraying troubled teen Jonah Brand opposite Lizzy Caplan (Orange Count, Mean Girls). Jonah attends one of CaliforniaÂ?s top private schools on a scholarship, and is raised by middle-class single parent Sandra Brand (Daryl Hannah, Kill Bill Vol. 1, and Steel Magnolias) which sets him apart from the wealthy, self-indulged student body, and leaves him virtually indivisible in their eyes. He is introduced to Sara Weller (Lizzy Caplan) at a party, a girl he has noticed for a very long time, yet this is the first she has taken notice of him. Sara introduces Jonah to her tight knit group of friends, Troy (Jonathon Trent) her boyfriend, Lucas (D.J. Cotrona) TroyÂ?s wise-cracking best friend, and Erin (Jenny Wade) JennyÂ?s best friend. The circle of hard partying friends who are more than selective of whom they allow into their freewheeling lifestyle of sex, drugs and hedonistic exploration of LA’s endless nightlife reluctantly allow Jonah in, only after learning that Jonah is working at a pharmacy over the summer, and could prove useful to their drug-fueled revelry. Jonah is no match for this crowd, his love for Sarah heats pass the boiling point leaving everyone scalding by his desire to possess.
Jonathon Trent is a Los Angeles native who moved to Malibu when he was ten years old. He attended Malibu high school where he was quarterback on the football team, as well as a member of the track, wrestling and tennis teams and an avid surfer. After being cast as McMurphy in the school production of Â?One Flew Over the CuckooÂ?s NestÂ? Jonathon decided that he wanted to focus his energies on acting. Ryan Carroll, President of Alpine Pictures, has expressed Â?We are very excited to have this young talent as part of our castÂ? and added Â?We are also lucky to grab him now, before he explodes and tops the Hollywood A-list.Â?
His first major role was Ted, in the feature film Â?SmileÂ? which also stars Mika Boorem, Linda Hamilton, Sean Astin, Beau Bridges and Cheri Oteri. In addition to the excitement of working with such an amazing cast, the film was shot in Mainland China and gave Jonathon his first opportunity to travel the world. Â?SmileÂ? is currently playing in theatres throughout California, and is going into wide release later in the spring. Jonathon also stars in the pilot episode of the new Fox Series Â?The InsideÂ? which will debut in 2005. Most recently he had a lead role in Q. Allan BrockaÂ?s new film Â?Boy CultureÂ? which was filmed in Seattle. Jonathon is currently filming the lead role in a feature film called Â?Pray for MorningÂ?.
In Alpine PicturesÂ? “Love is the Drug”, Jonathon Trent will be portraying Troy Daniels, the boyfriend of Sara Weller (Lizzy Caplan; Mean Girls, Orange County) and is the striking and magnetic member of a tight-knit circle of high school friends on the verge of college. Troy is pressured by his love for Sarah, and the wanderlust dreams young love brings, and the responsibilities and pressures his parents place on him to attend college and attain success in business. Into this maelstrom enters Jonah Brand, a loner, whose infatuation with Sara creates further conflict in TroyÂ?s life–conflict which leads to a disquieting ending.
Jenny Wade has garnered attention for her appearance on Project Greenlight 3, has had numerous guest appearances on some of televisions top rated shows and is exploding on the big screen in several feature films, including Monster-in-Law with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda and Ice Harvest with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton.
In Alpine PictureÂ?s “Love is the Drug”, Jenny Wade will portray the supporting character Erin Sutherland. Erin attends one of CaliforniaÂ?s top private schools. She survives on the fringes of a tight knit group of teens, best friend to Sara (Lizzy Caplan), ex-girlfriend of Lucas (D.J. Cotrona), and party-girl to the boys she meets. Erin is lonely and lost, constantly seeking affirmation of her beauty and worthiness. She confuses sex with intimacy and love, searches for an identity, and struggles with SaraÂ?s popularity. Erin stands mute on the sidelines as the world crumbles apart for her friends.
D.J. (Donald Joseph) Cotrona grew up in Connecticut where he studied pre-law at Boston College. During a break from his studies D.J. came to visit a family friend in Los Angeles and decided to put college on hold to move to Hollywood and pursue an acting career. His impulsiveness paid off when he was almost immediately chosen to play Adam Roam, in Jerry BruckheimerÂ?s Fox drama Â?SkinÂ?, with Olivia Wilde (Â?The OCÂ? and The Girl Next Door) Ron Silver (Â?The West WingÂ?, Â?Chicago HopeÂ?) and Kevin Anderson (Â?Power and BeautyÂ?, Hoffa).
Cotrona will soon be seen in Backwater with Bijou Phillips (Havoc, Almost Famous) and is expected to sizzle on the screen as popular jock Lucas Mitchell. Executive Producer Neil Kaufman remarked, Â?D.J. adds depth and charm to Lucas to balance his sharp tongueÂ? and continued Â?He is a young talent with a long future ahead of him and we are fortunate to be working with him.Â? D.J. has also guest-starred on NBC’s hit series, Â?LAW AND ORDER: Special Victims Unit.Â?
Daryl Hannah has played such diverse roles as android, mermaid cave girl, and even a giant, and Alpine Pictures, Inc is excited to have her join the cast of “Love Is the Drug”. Daryl Christine Hannah was born December 3rd, 1960. Daryl went on the attend and graduate from University of Southern California School of Theater, practiced ballet with Maria Tallchief, and studied drama at Chicago’s famed Goodman School of Drama. Daryl’s talents are not limited to acting, she even played keyboard and was a back-up singer for Jackson Browne.
In Alpine Picture’s Love Is the Drug, Daryl Hannah will be portraying Sandra Brand, the single mother of lead character Jonah Brand. Sandra is a single mother, struggling to raise a son alone, and sacrificing to afford him the opportunity to attend Horizon’s, one of the most elite private schools in California.
Ryan Carroll, CEO of Alpine Pictures, Inc. expressed, Â?We are very excited to have such a talented actor playing Sandra BrandÂ? and added, Â?We are looking forward to seeing how Daryl brings Sandra to life, and what surprises her talents will add to the character.Â?
As single mother Sandra Brand, Daryl will also face the daunting challenges of raising a teenage son alone, managing a home, bills, and career, as well as juggling a personal life of dating and personal problems.
Producer, Jed Nolan asserted Â?Sandra Brand is character that many single mothers will relate to, and Daryl will bring a strength and humility to the character that can inspire them.Â?
Once post-production is completed the film project will be submitted to select film festivals, such as Sundance, The Toronto Film Festival, and other high profile venues, to stimulate further media awareness. Love Is the Drug is a hard look at teen life, portrayed by a brilliant cast, directed by a raconteur, and written by dramatist that is sure to capture the attention of film critics, the public and the major studios.
